Sports Pigeons of Russia

IT IS NOT DIFFICULT TO BREED GOOD DOVES IF YOU BEGIN WITH THE BEST.
It is not for nothing that this is the slogan of our site, because we are engaged in inbreeding sports pigeons, and I think this information will be useful to all lovers of sports pigeons.

THE SENSE OF INBRIDING ...

in sports pigeon breeding is the accumulation in the offspring of genes responsible for the most important qualities, such as mind, speed, and the ability to orient the pigeon, but muscle strength is reduced. Therefore, pigeons strongly inbred are suitable for breeding especially for interline crossing, but not for flights.

Inbreeding allows you to combine qualities by crossing and especially good conditions of feeding and feeding, you can grow pigeons with high viability and introduce them into a high flight form. Such pigeons in individual competitions will show high results. However, such pigeons cannot be considered a bird with outstanding capabilities. For this, they do not have the necessary qualities described above, which can only be obtained through targeted inbreeding. It should be noted that with the help of inbreeding you can improve existing qualities, so it makes no sense to conduct inbreeding for the sake of inbreeding.

It is necessary to have initial pigeons with the necessary qualities so that these qualities can be developed, we will explain with examples. These qualities are inherited as the arithmetic mean between similar qualities of parents, expressed in numbers. If the pigeon possesses mental abilities by 80%, and the pigeon by 50%, then their children will have abilities at the level of 65%, i.e. better than mother and worse than father.

Another example: the dove is not very fast in flight, but it has prizes, although in the last third of the prize. On the item "speed" he has an estimate of 40%. A dove was flocking with it, which flew less, but was constantly among the winners of the first prizes. Theoretically, it has speed qualities of 65%. for the development of this quality in offspring, it is necessary to bestow a better son with his mother. Their children will have speed qualities: 90 + 65 = 155: 2. These examples, of course, simplify the problem, but do not allow us to understand the principle of inheritance of certain qualities.

CROSSING OR INBRIDING?

By population we mean a natural, reproductive community of animals of one species and one breed living in a certain territory, in our case in a pigeon nursery. At the same time, not a single individual, but the entire community comes to the fore. Tribal work is carried out with him, and as a result, certain specimens with outstanding abilities and qualities that some time play a leading role in breeding work are bred.

Often there are disputes among pigeon breeders - what is the best method for raising pigeons with high flying qualities - crossbreeding or inbreeding? The answer to this question cannot be unequivocal: either-or. The ultimate goal of each pigeon breeder is to constantly increase the breeding and sporting value of his pigeons in order to have viable, very healthy birds with high flying qualities that always find their way home, and at the same time fly at high speed.

In this regard, each pigeon breeder should know that, using only non-related crosses, only the following qualities can be improved: vitality, health, resistance to diseases, life expectancy, physique, fecundity, size. With almost every crossing, the offspring improve on these qualities. However, it is known that often physically strong pigeons obtained by the method of crossing do not give results in competitions. Such pigeons are called "deceivers", i.e. often people are deceived by their beautiful appearance.

Professor Anker denotes the properties inherent in such pigeons as secondary, and he stipulates that if the line of pigeons is weakened by too long inbreeding, the acquisition of these qualities may become paramount. Applying only crossbreeding, the following qualities cannot be improved: mind, speed, long-range ability, orientation ability. All these properties that are prized by a sports pigeon in the first place.

DOVES ARE SUITABLE FOR INBRIDING

Professor Anker found that for inbreeding, pigeons with outstanding heredity and only secondarily with high flying achievements are necessary. The difference between them is that the first 4 have high-value properties, fixed hereditarily, genetically. Outstanding in terms of sporting achievements, the pigeon primarily has high vitality and athletic form. If he still has an outstanding heredity, he is an ideal breeding pigeon, but in practice this is rare.

Hereditary value is revealed only by the quality of the offspring, and there is one basic rule: if a couple of 20 or more chicks received only 2-3 class pigeons, it means that the flight achievements of the parents are only the result of high vitality and good athletic form, and these qualities are inbreeding impossible to improve. To obtain genetically valuable pigeons, you must pair: father x daughter or mother x son if the pigeons are in excellent health. Such methods give excellent results, but some pigeon breeders do not apply them on the basis of the concepts of human morality.

Unusual flying achievements should not be expected from highly inbred pigeons. They are primarily necessary for interline crossing. Pigeons obtained by crossing representatives of two unrelated lines, each of which is carried out by close inbreeding, will bring long-awaited success. Professor Anker proved this from his own experience. The pigeon 342-71- 448, obtained by him in this way, flew 5436 prize kilometers, 9 times in the top ten. Professor Anker knew well what he was writing about.
